Washington withdrew from UNESCO because of the organization’s bias against Israel

 The United States announced Thursday its withdrawal from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) under the pretext of its bias against Israel

“The decision was not taken lightly and highlights US concerns about the growing debt of UNESCO, the need for radical reforms in the organization and the continued bias against Israel,” State Department spokesman Heather Naort said in a statement.

For its part, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Thursday that it regrets the decision of the United States to withdraw from UNESCO, adding that the action will disrupt a number of important projects that the organization intends to implement

Hours after Washington’s announcement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel was considering withdrawing from UNESCO, saying he had directed the State Department to prepare for the withdrawal, describing Washington’s decision as “moral and courageous”.
